OKONGKO CHARITY FOUNDATION HITS THE HINTERLANDS WITH HUMANITARIAN TOUCH

OKONGKO CHARITY FOUNDATION POISED TO ENGAGE MORE A’IBOMITES IN HINTERLANDS, PARTNERS WITH ROYAL FATHERS BY Kendi JUMBO Dr Chris Okongko, a Canadian-based business mogul and globally-acclaimed 2025 South-South Nigerian Humanitarian Personality has continued to break new grounds in a bid to expand the reach of his Foundation’s humanitarian services to the people living in the hinterlands of Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria and the African continent at large. Resolved to accommodate more communities in Akwa Ibom in his scheme of things, the management of Okongko Charity Foundation, led by the African Representative, Sir Daniel Ekanem, Monday, 6 October, 2025, embarked on a solidarity tour to the palaces of the Paramount Rulers of Ukanafun, Oron as well as other humanitarian engagements in Abak, and Uyo local government areas, respectively. In Ukanafun, the team while paying homage to the Paramount Ruler of the area, HRM Akuku Engr Amos Daniel Akpan, described the visit as a homecoming, noting that their illustrious son, Dr. Chris Okongko is the Founder and International President of the Foundation. The Foundation’s African Representative, Mr. Daniel Ekanem, who presented the mandate of the Foundation before the King of the land, reeled out some of the projects undertaken by the Foundation in Ukanafun. According to him, the charity work began from home, having successfully graded over 12 rural roads in Ikot Akpa Idem, donated 50 double seater desks at Government Primary School, Ikot Ideh, sponsored many Ukanafun sons and daughters in Nursery, Primary, Secondary and Tertiary institutions, empowered women and youths with business grants, conducted medical outreaches to the aged and the poor, as well as building, renovation of homes and civic centres on the area. Responding, the Paramount Ruler of Ukanafun, HRM Akuku Engr Amos Akpan said he was pleased to welcome the team to his palace, even as he openly identified with the Foundation’s imprints in the land. The monarch while expressing delight about the activities and achievements of the Foundation, noted with excitement that having someone from his stock done what Dr. Chris Okongko has been doing is a thing of pride to him and a blessing to Ukanafun. He pointed out that it’s uncommon for people who have found “comfort zones” outside the shores of the country to still remember home and even reaching out to the needy like Dr. Okongko has done. He appealed for the even spread of the Foundation’s magnanimity amongst the communities in Ukanafun, even as he prayed God’s continuous blessings and grace upon Dr. Okongko and the Foundation in general. The team also stopped by the Ukanafun Divisional Police to pay homage to the DPO, Okoye U. C., who appreciated the Foundation’s kind gestures to the people and promised watertight security in the area. The team while in the palace of the Otumesembe of Oron, Paramount Ruler of Oron local government, HRM Offong Edet Akan to pay homage, extolled the leadership virtues of the monarch, especially in the aspect of peace keeping, unity and steady progress in the local government. President of the Okongko Charity Foundation, who personally registered his solidarity and goodwill to the monarch through a WhatsApp call, described him as a father-figure whose legacy of friendship and encouragement has further emboldened the Foundation to impact on the lives of the people. He assured him of the Foundation’s commitment to reach out to more Akwa Ibomites, particularly from the hinterlands of Oro and other local government areas of the State. “Your Royal Majesty, Sir, our coming isn’t predicted on the fact that you’re from Ukanafun where our President and Founder comes from, but in recognition of your pioneering role and encouragement to the Foundation, as well as to justify our mandate of spreading love and kindness to all Akwa Ibomites irrespective of tribal and ethno-cultural sentiment“, Sir Dan Ekanem, added. Also, as part of its mandate of showing empathy and concern to the sick and emotionally distressed families, the Foundation identified with the bereaved family of Mr Robson Robson (Udo Robinson), a former Youth/Community leader of Ikot Akpa Idem, in Ukanafun. The team was received by the deceased’s wife at their residence in Abak. The President of the Foundation, Dr. Chris Okongko, who was visibly but emotionally drenched, described the Late Udo Robson as a good man who sacrificed dearly for the peace, unity and development of his Community, Ikot Akpa Idem. While speaking with the deceased’s wife via WhatsApp call, promised to be there for the family, ensuring the education of the son as well as a befitting funeral of the Late community leader. The last in the routine was the visit to the family to the Late Mr. Idiongo Akpanuko, who until his untimely demise was the African Representative of the Foundation. The team who was received by the elder brother, Dr. Uwem Akpanuko also met and prayed God’s healing on the aged but sick mother. Receiving the team, Dr. Akpanuko who recalled with nostalgia the fond memories of the late younger brother, praised the President of the Foundation for his uncanny compassion and love for the people, especially the downtrodden. He said: “its rare to have a person in the mould of Dr. Chris Okongko. I may not know where he has taken the big heart from to do the milestone he has been doing. He might not be the richest person in Ukanafun, Nigeria or Africa, but it’s a matter of heart and perhaps calling. So I salute him. “I’ve attended the Foundation’s programs and I’ve witnessed a lot he has done for the people. I must say, he really has a big heart which I keep imagining where he got it from. Meanwhile, the Foundation has yet again enrolled two (2) Akwa Ibomites into its scholarship roll.
