Fulfilling the Mandate: Okongko Charity Foundation’s Journey of Giving Back to Society

OKONGKO CHARITY FOUNDATION, established in 2018, is a non-governmental organization founded by Canadian-based businessman and entrepreneur, Dr. Christopher Okongko who is also the Managing Director of Okongko Mega Investment Limited. The foundation was conceived with the primary mission of providing vital support and resources to vulnerable communities, advancing educational opportunities, improving healthcare accessibility, and facilitating economic empowerment for the underprivileged. Born from its founder’s deep compassion, the organization maintains a particular focus on supporting individuals living with disabilities, ultimately striving to enhance the quality of life for all members of society.

The story behind the establishment of the foundation dates back many years, when the founder, Dr. Christopher Okongko, developed a deep passion for helping the needy and vulnerable members of society during his school days. This passion was driven by a desire to give them renewed hope for a better future.

What began as a simple idea has, over the years, transformed into a foundation with objectives that extend far beyond the provision of educational scholarships to underprivileged children at all levels. The foundation’s initiatives include healthcare programmes for rural communities, various economic empowerment initiatives for women and youths, relief materials for disaster victims, vocational training, entrepreneurship support, and collaborations with governments at all levels to implement intervention programmes in areas such as road grading and educational infrastructure.

The foundation is fortunate to have a team of exceptional and dedicated members, including a Board of Trustees, an experienced and professional management team, and a committed staff overseeing daily operations. A blend of these passionate individuals, alongside a group of spirited volunteers, has been working together to give back to society.

Having been founded as an international organisation, the foundation does not rest on its laurels. Rather, it continues to move forward with renewed enthusiasm each year, fulfilling the mandate of its founder.

As a truly charitable organisation with an unwavering commitment to "meeting needs," the foundation has continued its hard work to establish and position itself as a leader in providing far-reaching charitable initiatives. These initiatives aim to support people from all walks of life globally, with a focus on the following areas:

EDUCATION

Education been a vital aspect of human development, enabling individuals to acquire knowledge, skills, and values necessary for personal growth, social mobility, and economic recovery, Okongko Charity Foundation gives premium priority to the educational advancement through provisions of scholarship supports to indigents and deserving people of the community. Since inception, over two thousand (2000) people from various background have benefitted from Okongko Charity Foundation scholarship supports.

ESTABLISHMENT OF EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES AND FACILITIES:

The foundation, through her need assessment initiative, has identified and facilitated the provisions of not less than fifty double desks for the pupils of Government Primary school Ikot Ideh in Ukanafun Local Government areas as well as donation of computers to some selected schools in Nigeria.

PROVISION OF MEDICAL CARE AND SUPPORT TO VULNERABLE POPULATIONS:

The foundation in partnership with Redemption FM has championed the distribution of medical equipment worth millions of naira to over 400 selected persons leaving with disability across Akwa Ibom State. The foundation establishes partnerships with hospitals and other healthcare providers to offer free or subsidized medical services to the people.

INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT

under infrastructural developmental needs, Okongko Charity Foundation has continued to grade roads in rural communities to improve accessibility and safety as well as assisting the government since the government can’t do all alone. So far, over 15 community roads spanning across Nkek, Ikot Ikang, Ikot Akpa Idem group of villages in Ukanafun Local Government Area have been graded. The Foundation has also constructed and maintained some selected community civil buildings and facilities, as well as providing clean and potable water for the community.

OFFER FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FOR SMALL BUSINESS OWNERS

The foundation has also provided business support grants to many indigenes of the State. The foundation also offers business training and mentorship programmes to small business owners and entrepreneurs. This initiative is ongoing and is packaged to inject lives back into the society.

SPORTS DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVE:

Under the sports development initiative of Okongko Charity Foundation, the foundation has over the years initiated a sustained Football Tournament under the sponsorships of the foundation to foster unity and growth among the youths. This initiative has further cemented the relationship among members of the community, especially those that were displaced during communal clash. The programmes have also promoted community cohesion and social inclusion!

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES

Okongko Charity Foundation directly or indirectly has created employment opportunities for many through her job creation and employment initiative, thereby improving the social welfare of the affected staff members.

MEDIA PARTNERSHIPS

The foundation has established partnerships with community-based media organizations to help promote the effective information dissemination. This collaboration has attracted the attention of the media community and witnessed a rewarding experience resulting in various degree of award excellent on the President of the foundation, Dr. Christopher Okongko.

INNOVATIVE SOLUTIONS FOR SOCIAL EQUITY

The foundation also developed and implemented innovative solutions to addressing imbalances in the society, amongst many other related issues.

Dr Christopher Okongko is a Canadian Based Entrepreneur, a Youth Activist, the CEO of Okongko Mega Investment Limited and president of Okongko Universal ventures.

He is also a great Philanthropist and the president/ Founder of Okongko Charity Foundation, an international non profit Organisation whose helping hand is across the globe including Canada! His scholarship programmes have sponsored greater number of students in Akwa Ibom, portthar court, and other parts of the country.
